SAFETY EDUCATION

March and April have been bike safety months at Safety City. Our two instructors have taught over 5,500 students how to stay safe while riding their bikes, and reminding students why it is important to wear a properly fitted helmet.

During May and June a new program, Summer Fun Safety, will be launched. Students will learn about staying safe in the summertime while playing "Who Wants to Have a Safe Summer", our version of a popular game show some of you may have seen on TV.

CONSTRUCTION

The Construction Committee is going over the final plans for the Safety City site and construction should begin soon. The Safety City staff, Board of Directors, supporters, teachers, students, and neighbors will all be watching closely.

A NEW COMPUTER

Patti and Leanne were tired of racing to the office everyday to see who was going to get to use the computer first, so they filled out a grant application and got another one. The Muttart Foundation, with the assistance of an anonymous donor, was able to offer state of the art computer systems to charitable organizations in Alberta and Saskatchewan. By the time you read this, the new computer should be up and running, and Patti and Leanne can get back to sauntering in around 10:00am. (Just kidding.)

SAFETY HAZARD HUNT

Watch for details about the Safety Hazard Hunt Contest that Safety City will be holding this summer. We haven’t ironed out all of the details yet, but it will involve spotting a dangerous situation in your home or neighborhood, fixing it, and getting the details to us. Be on the look out, and remember to stay safe!

WANTED

We are looking for a few good items to fill a bit of space in our Safety City Office. We are in need of: plants, a fridge, and white boards. If you have any of these items and would like to donate them to Safety City, please email us or call 317-1955 to arrange for pick-up or delivery.

STILL WANTED

Has Safety City made a difference in the life of someone you know? Does your child wipe up spills in the bathroom, put out their arm when they cross the street, or insist that you wear a helmet when you go biking? If you have a story that you would like to share please send it to us, we’d love to read it!
