Safety
Education It's hard to believe that we are well into our third program of the school year. We wrapped up the Winter Safety program just before Christmas and are now in full swing with our Streetproofing lessons. The next session to be delivered to our audiences will focus on protective safety gear, with the main emphasis on helmets. This is quite timely with the new legislation for helmet use in Alberta and with the Safe Kids Week theme for 2002 - "Kids on Wheels". We are excited to be exploring a partnership with the local BMX club and National Champion Aaron Lepp to deliver this message in high flying style! |

Volunteers are the backbone of the Safety City Society and help us in a variety of ways. We sincerely appreciate all of their efforts and try to make the experience here worthwhile and sometimes even a little fun! With our Annual meeting the first week of mMarch and the official changing of the guard, now is a good time to consider how you can become involved. Volunteers are needed on our recruitment, fundraising, and maintenance committees. We are also looking for a couple of " Directors-at-large" to learn about and assist in directing the work of our organization. (No, you do not have to be large .... ) To find out more about these jobs, call or email Patti at the office.

UPCOMING EVENTS

| CONSTRUCTION If you have had the opportunity to drive past our facility in the last few weeks, you would have noticed a major development in the upright form of traffic lights and signs. We are very pleased with the efforts of the Infrastructure Services department of the City of Lethbridge and would like to recognize Don Bryska, Henry Sirias, Richard Thomsen and John McCall as well as the other gentlemen who worked so hard to get this portion of our site up and running. Thank You! We are also pleased to announce a major funding boost for the completion of the training site. In December we received a $10,000 grant from the Alberta Traffic Safety Foundation and another $2000 for traffic signs from Alberta Transportation! We thank these traffic safety departments for their support. With the last of the funding in place for our site development, we are hereby issuing notice to anyone interested in helping out, that volunteers will be needed throughout the spring to perform various tasks - mainly concrete work, sod laying and landscaping. Get ready to dust off those shovels and rakes!
